Studying? Who studies?
I can't remember a whit about power series. I'm not even sure if that's how you spell whit. But I'm not studying or doing anything productive, just reading articles about things like Kirk Cameron and Trotskyism on Wikipedia.
Two and a half weeks. That's the ideal length of a break, I'm convinced. Enough time to recuperate, but not so much time that you lose your sense of scholarship. Instead we get nine days. That's hardly enough to catch up on all the sleep we've missed, and depending on what you're doing, actually leaves you feeling less ready to take on the academic world. Myself, I'm more ready. But not by much. I didn't do the homework I was supposed to do last night, and tonight I'm figuring I'll have to stay up for a very long time and work a whole lot just to get myself to a state of mild proficiency.
And the group interview thing with Breakthrough, which was yesterday, didn't go too well--at least not as well as I would expect given my awesome interviewing history. I even made stuff up at one point: "Uh, my experience with perseverence is not as profound as Corinne's [which involved people splitting up and being poor and everybody dying or something], but in Academic Decathlon..." Well, I didn't really make stuff up. But I did exaggerate the amount of work that I did, and I was groping for a metaphorical branch to cling to as I babbled on. That was a pretty low point. I felt like I had to compete with everyone while at the same time going really, really fast. My normally controlled, calm interviewing manner was completely absent. If I do get beaten out for a spot, though, I feel like I'll beat out by people who are quite competent. The other applicants at the interview all seemed nice and smart and bubbly and good-at-teachingish.
But we did get to do a skit. Ours was based on The Wizard of Oz, and since I was the only male in the group, I had the distinct privilege of being the narrator/Dorothy/the Wizard. I'm not sure which. But it was cool.
And that about does it for tonight. I should at least do things that are tangentially related to the activity I'm trying to put off, just as a wise man once advised me. I'll go wiki some things. Hasta la byebye, kids! Make sure to floss that nasty mouth of yours.
