Damn it

I'm kind of tired and I have a test tomorrow, but that's not why this post's title contains a mild expletive. No, the reason for that is my having attended a 1.25 hour seminar on reading faster. That's right. I went to one of those.

As soon as I walked in, I realized that everything I ever thought about these sorts of classes and their more evil cousins, the business seminars, was true. It was creepy. Even though there was nothing particularly culty about learning to read faster, it felt like a really creepy cult. It was slightly run-down and the person doing the talking was a small woman wearing a suit-thing whose arms were too big for her very skinny wrists. Her voice was very nasally. Much like a witch's voice. Apparently she was a neuropsychologist, and what she said was simple and made sense. The unfortunate thing is that if you want to actually learn how to read faster, you'd need to fork over $279 and twelve hours of your life. That just didn't sound fun.

Plus, I'd thought maybe I'd be able to get the job done on my own with what we did in those 1.25 hours.

And then, just now, when I was reading an article on procrastination, I realized the awful truth that I was reading in precisely the same manner as before. Damn it.

And now I'm working through some problems for microeconomics so that I can ace the test. I'm pretty confident that I'm totally where it's at, but I'd rather not go in cocky and embarrass myself. Besides, I have a weird relationship with economic theory. I totally get it when I'm reading or hearing about it; then, when I'm supposed to justify it or explain it later, I get all confused. Not on a test though; I kick ass at the tests. Still it's kind of scary, since I want to make a career out of justifying and explaining this stuff.

Presently I will return to studying. But I bet you didn't know that presently means soon, as opposed to right now. Fascinating, eh?
