Ah, it's Valentine's Day!
Not my favorite holiday!
(Yay!)
That stuff above was done to music. If you can't hear it, then too bad, you're just not cool.
But in all seriousness Valentine's Day is not my favorite holiday--probably my least favorite, now that I come to think of it. Unlike plenty o' folk who hate it just for its commercialness, I'm rubbed unpleasantly by the fact that since second grade I haven't had a female of any sort (excluding my sisters and mother) to share it with.
Oh well, this Valentine's Day was ok though--probably because I had minimal exposure to couples this time. When I was watching some college basketball on TV, I was pleasantly surprised to hear no mention of the holiday even in the commercials, making me feel a bit better. Thanks ESPN, you rock my world.
I had some good fun yesterday too when I hung out with my dad after a half-day at school. We went out to eat and spent a bit of time looking for this Italian place that my dad had been to once, but eventually decided that it must have closed down and went to Olive Garden instead. Then we went to see Butterfly Effect, a movie that I wanted to see mostly because of the premises behind it (mostly stuff relating to travel to the past and the reenacting of events). Though the film had its weak points and was somewhat sketchy in a few areas about the travelling, I've never seen a film that involves theoretical concepts that hasn't been, and after thinking about it, I've realized that it had fewer gray areas than any other films I've seen with abstract theory behind much of the plot except for some of the Star Trek films--which is quite impressive, considering that Star Trek had television series behind it to explain much of its theory. What was really surprising to me, though, was that my dad enjoyed it and went so far as to say it was "one of the best movies" he's ever seen. For those of you who don't know my father (all of you, but oh well), he is notoriously picky about movies, and when he even LIKES one (not a grudging "it was ok" but actually saying it was good), you half expect everyone nearby to gasp in shock. The movie really left very little to be desired, and I give it a hearty thumbs up.
Yesterday definitely gave me a bit of a push coming into today and softened the sudden blow of "It's Valentine's Day, and you're ALONE!" We (Ceylan and I) also got treated to a very late dinner tonight at Chili's by our padres, which felt oddly good. The family actually talked a bit and we had fun, believe it or not. Sad to think that there aren't going to be too many more occasions of that since college is fast approaching and I won't be here in half a year.
Anyways, there's more--there always is--but it's not flowing into me right now, and I feel like I've been quite incoherent, so I'll let this entry free to roam on my webpage where it belongs. Fuck Saint Valentine! Hasta la byebye!
